Rock climbing (with tools)

Rock climbing is defined as climbing on steep rocky terrain, and is a general terms used to describe climbing in a recreational setting. More specifically, mountaineering is climbing in and on mountains, often with an ambitious goal in mind. In aid climbing, all means of ascent are used, from pulling on gear to climbing ropes attached to bolts and in free rock climbing, participators use only their hands, feet and other body parts to make progress. Ropes and other gear are only used for protection.

Holidays where you can go rock climbing vary hugely according to your level of experience and the goals you are hoping to attain. Many specialist holiday companies cater for different needs and should all provide qualified guides with excellent local knowledge. On the other hand you might be on a holiday and do a day’s rock climbing at a local climbing spot. But never attempt a steep ascent without the necessary knowledge, equipment or supervision as mistakes in rock climbing tend to lead to serious or fatal injury.
