Overland Expedition

Overland Expeditions or journeys typically involve the undertaking of a road journey which span several countries, cultures and terrain. Travel is exclusively by land, rather than air, though they can take in lake, river or sea crossings as necessary. Overlanding is often said to be more about the journey than the destination, and is sometimes thought of as being the antithesis of a package holiday. Travel in a small group in a specially modified vehicle, overlanding provides the means and opportunities for exploration and path-finding that is perhaps being forgotten in the modern age of cheap air travel and low-budget packages.

The spirit of independent travel and adventure is alive and kicking in the modern forms of the overland expedition, perhaps through Saharan Africa or following the ancient trails across Turkey, Iran to northern India. Many tour operators offer special overland expeditions across many different routes and you can book in advance for the overland adventure of a lifetime, or indeed set off from your own front door in a camper van with just the promise of the open road ahead of you.
