Dry Slope Skiing

This form of skiing is on natural or artificially sloping ground that is covered with a material that attempts to mimic the attributes of snow to provide a practice area and is also a recreation in itself. The most common material is called dendix which is formed from a lattice of short haired brushes. Modern forms may use PolyButylTeraphthallate (PBT) mono-filament, a microfibre in loop form, and new materials are always being developed to reach the ultimate simulation of the real thing.

Indoor skiing is possible in ski-domes, temperature-controlled environments where real synthetic snow is forced onto artificial slopes. One of the longest is the 500metre Snow Dome in Chiba prefecture in Japan. The World's first indoor slope was Mt Thebarton in Adelaide Australia, which opened in 1987 and is still in operation.

Dry slope skiing can be a great way to prepare for a winter sports holiday, or as a fun day out for the family.
