Abseiling

Abseiling (from the German abseilen, "to rope down") is the process of descending a vertical on a fixed rope, using special equipment, such as a harness, a descender and a helmet. It is a sport in itself, but is mainly used as part of other activities such as rock climbing, canyoning, caving and adventure racing. If you go on a rock climbing or mountain climbing holiday it is very likely that you will taught the main techniques of abseiling, as it can sometimes be the only way down off a mountain. You will be properly trained and equipped as although abseiling is simple in concept it carries its own particular risks.
