Football fans have been told they should make sure they have proper travel insurance cover before they travel abroad. As many fans are only taking short trips away, many might be tempted to arrange minimal or no insurance cover at all.
However, experts have advised that flexible premiums, such as policies that cover groups, are well worth investing in, since they can cut costs considerably if the worst did happen while abroad.
Mike Ketteringham, head of Churchill travel insurance, commented: "England fans should ensure they have their travel insurance arranged before their World Cup adventure kicks off.
"That way, they will have one less thing to worry about while in Germany and will be able to fix their attention firmly on Rooney’s fitness battle and England’s performance."
Travellers were also warned to uncheck personal items when taking out travel insurance, as these could already be covered by home insurance policies.
Meanwhile, "soccer widows" eager to escape the World Cup were told they could go to the Linthwaite House Hotel in the Lake District today.
The hotel has been declared a football-free zone, where any catching member of staff mentioning the word "football" will be given a free glass of champagne.
