West Country top for UK holidays
16 July 2007  Locations in the West Country have come out on top in a poll to find the most popular UK holiday destination for those who took to the roads last summer.

Conducted for Kwik-Fit, the top five motoring holidays saw the West Country - which includes areas such as Devon, Dorset and Somerset - voted number one, with 1.9 million people driving there in 2006.

Scotland came second, with the north-east and Yorkshire in third place; while they may not offer a 100 per cent chance of sun and sangria, places such as this can often give young families a real bucket-and-spade-type getaway.

The south, south-east and Isle of Wight came fourth in the poll, with Wales rounding off the top five.

"It looks like growing numbers of Britons are planning to holiday in the UK," remarked David White, customer services director at Kwik-Fit.

"Many of whom appear keen to rediscover the charms that this country holds," he added.

Whether jetting off overseas or staying closer to home, Britons may find a comprehensive travel insurance policy can ensure peace of mind and assistance should a claim need to be made.
