UK travellers 'know they need holiday insurance'

The general public in the UK have a good awareness of their need for holiday insurance before they head abroad, it has been claimed.Columbus Direct notes that there exists a range of advertisements in the public domain to improve their knowledge of the necessity of travel cover.
The company urged holidaymakers to ensure they are sufficiently covered for the activities they may undertake when abroad and commented that sports cover such as rafting can often increase the price of premiums.
Svenja Taylor, spokesperson for Columbus Direct, said: "In general the public know that they do need travel insurance.
"The cover limits are the most important thing. You need to have enough medical cover, especially if you are travelling to America where treatment costs could be crippling."
In October, Sainsbury's Bank reported that 36 per cent of all single trip or annual holiday insurance claims were for medical costs and repatriation.
