As the number of independent holidaymakers booking their trips online increases, an agency reports that some Britons still prefer to get in touch with their travel agent for destination advice and personal service.Towbridge-based firm Howard Travel notes that successful travel agents are those that know their clients and can thus offer a more personalised service with information specially tailored for individual travellers.
Joanne Earney, a travel counsellor at the firm, said: "We don't get a lot of walk-in people ... they usually ring up and want suggestions from us as to a good holiday."
She added that travel agents can also help new clients by asking the appropriate questions regarding previous travel experiences.
Last year, a survey published by Neilsen revealed that 36 per cent of Britons use a travel agents' website to book their holidays, while consumers find websites that include feedback from other travellers to be the most trustworthy.
Earlier this month, financial services comparison firm moneysupermarket.com reported that 14 per cent of Britons take out a holiday insurance policy offered by their travel agent.
