New research has revealed that Britons who take out travel insurance may be focusing on the wrong kind of problems that could ruin their trip. A study from Johnson & Johnson shows that many travellers overlook common health problems and seek insurance against more improbable travel catastrophes.
However, it is estimated that seven million people fall ill whilst away, and the latest research from the National Medicines Information Centre (NMIC) shows that 20 per cent to 50 per cent suffer from traveller's diarrhoea whilst away.
Such an ailment can put someone out of action for as much as 15 per cent of their holiday.
So not only is travel insurance vital, but so are precautions to ensure that your trip is not blighted by stomach-related problems.
The worst destinations for traveller's diarrhoea are in the Middle East, South/Southeast Asia, Central America and low-income African countries.
