A teenage girl from Essex is recovering in a Spanish hospital after being seriously injured by a bull whilst on holiday. Katherine Barron, 16, from Harlow, was on holiday with her two cousins and staying with her uncle in Alicante, when the incident happened.
She had attended the annual Bulls to the Sea run at Mar de Moraira, when one of the bulls broke through a protection barrier, flipping the girl into the air and mauling her.
Katherine required surgery to the lower part of her body and suffered serious wounds to her head, including 12 stitches around her one of her eyes.
The traditional Bulls to the Sea run involves bulls chasing men through the town streets towards the sea, where the men jump into the water to save themselves.
Katherine will remain in hospital recovering over the next few days, and has been joined by her mother who flew out to be with her.
The horrific nature of this incident, in what is a very popular holiday destination for British tourists, highlights the importance of holiday insurance.
