A snowboarder who spent the night buried in snow has survived despite temperatures of -15 degrees C. Hristo Gurnevski, 39, was skiing with a friend in the Bulgarian resort of Bansko when he decided to go off-piste by himself.
After Mr Gurnevski found himself in a forest he decided to return but was unable to due to the lack of a guide and fresh snowfall.
As a result of his experience and equipment he was able to dig himself a hole in the snow where he spent the night.
Rescuers were able to reach him after he managed to send a friend a text message alerting him as to his whereabouts.
Skiiers and snowboarders are continually advised to ensure that they are covered by holiday insurance, as well as being aware of the potential risks involved with going off-piste.
Such decisions can save winter snow sport fanatics thousands of pounds in the event of needing to be rescued from the slopes.
