Research discovers extent of school holidays premium

Going away during the school holidays could cost you as much as 89 per cent extra, according to new research from Morgan Stanley.Only two months ago, travel companies had indicated that holiday premium pricing would be lessened in order to reduce the financial impact on parents and the rise in school truancy.
However, the new report exposes the school holiday premium, with the French Riviera found to be the most expensive destination - a trip in September could cost £887, yet two weeks earlier, the same holiday would cost £1,667.
In addition, Florida was found to be between 38 and 64 per cent more expensive depending on when the holiday was booked.
Patrick Muir, marketing director of Morgan Stanley Consumer Banking, said: "Price hikes can hit parents hard during the school holidays, when resorts and travel companies know that families have to take their summer break. Our latest research shows that Brits need to be careful when planning their holiday destination to avoid paying over the odds for a few days of sun."
