The Caribbean island of Jamaica is showing a different side of its traditionally laid-back culture in an attempt to attract a new kind of visitor with holiday insurance to its island shores. Exploring the deeply religious nature of many of the island's inhabitants, the new marketing scheme by the Jamaican Tourism board is hoping to bring in Christian and evangelical religious groups to the island.
"As a country, religion plays an important role in the lives of our citizens, so hosting religious events is natural to us," the country's deputy director of tourism, David Shields said.
Pentecostalism most prevalent form of Christianity on Jamaica but all religions are welcome and visitors and holiday makers, with holiday insurance, of all faiths can feel at home on the island, the World Peace Herald reports.
The population of Jamaica is around 2,652,000 and 80 per cent of people there practice Christianity.
