More than 200 holidaymakers returned home last night after a drunken passenger caused their flight to be diverted. Travellers returning from Mexico were forced to spend the night in Orlando, Florida, after Rafal Krawczyk abused staff and attempted to open a cabin door over the Atlantic.
Originally intended to take the 232 passengers from Cancun to Manchester, the plane was diverted to Orlando where it was grounded overnight. Passengers were then flown to Birmingham before being taken by bus to their final destination.
"It all started when he began grabbing one of the stewards and being abusive. He just wouldn't stop," Gary Jackson, one of the passengers onboard, said.
"Then he threw one of the stewards out of the way and started kicking at an exit door. He was just booting it."
Roughly 20 passengers were needed to restrain Mr Krawczyk, who passengers described as being over six foot tall and of large build. He will appear in court on Tuesday accused of interfering with flight crew.
In December last year a passenger was left on a desert island after he verbally abused staff, costing Monarch Airlines "thousands of pounds" to make the unscheduled diversion.
