UK flights from Cyprus to London were disrupted following a strike by Cyprus Airways. Highlighting the need for travel insurance to cover for events beyond travellers' control, the strike delayed passengers for ten hours.
Although Cyprus Airways ensured that some flights ran as usual, the London flight could not be covered, leaving 180 passengers stranded at the airport.
The strike may prove to be particularly frustrating for holidaymakers without travel insurance, as people who have booked a flight any time in the next eight weeks have been advised to rebook their flights with British Airways.
Flights to Athens and Thessaloniki were able to fly as the routes were serviced by Eurocypria, Aegean and Hellas Jet.
Pilots working for the airline took the decision to strike for four hours following a dispute with their employees over potential salary cuts.
Rather than negotiate with their employees the company decided to make alternative arrangements, the Cypriot paper the Financial Mirror reports.
