Britons who have just tied the knot are not generally spending the bulk of their wedding fund on the honeymoon, it has been reported, but they are nevertheless jetting off to more exotic locations than ever before.Wedding planner firm Confetti reveals that the average amount spent on a modern honeymoon is in the region of £2,500 to £3,000, with the Far East, Mediterranean, Mauritius and Cyprus popular destinations.
Carol Richardson, public relations manager at the firm, said: "People are travelling more anyway these days, despite the carbon footprint fears."
She added that couples are also heading further abroad for stag and hen weekends, while noting that some couples are still opting for a traditional European break.
In March 2005, American Express advised couples to remember to purchase holiday insurance when booking their honeymoon.
The firm reported that a quarter of marrying Britons will spend over £5,000 on a honeymoon, while predicting a rise in civil ceremonies to further boost the partnership statistics in the UK.
