Britons who go on holiday are leaving behind £2 billion worth of lost property, a new survey has revealed. The research carried out by Lloyds TSB Insurance shows that over half of holidaymakers forget something before they leave their vacation destination.
One in four people leave behind toiletries and 23 per cent forget clothes, while 17 per cent make the costly error of losing their sunglasses and five per cent do not pack away their jewellery.
The problem is exacerbated by the fact that 15 per cent of Brits admitted to not having holiday insurance to cover their possessions.
Despite so many people leaving valuables behind, only 18 per cent actually try and track them down when they have realised they have lost something.
Phil Loney, managing director of Lloyds TSB Insurance, said: "The post holiday blues are hard enough to handle without the added stress of lost property.
"Leaving behind the odd toothbrush isn't so much of a problem but forgetting more valuable items can cause real headaches."
