Irish football fans seek insurance claims after travel chaos

Thick fog grounded flights to the North Atlantic islands and hundreds of fans missed the vital World Cup qualifier match on Wednesday night.
John Downey of tour operators Celtic Horizon told the Irish Times one of its flights, which was to carry 92 passengers for an overnight stay, had to be cancelled after the Faroe Islands only international airport shut down.
He added that the fans at Dublin Airport who failed to get out to the Faroe Islands had been advised to claim off their travel insurance, adding: "It is events like this that highlight the importance of it."
Fans paid €569 for the one-night package to watch the Faroe Islands play Ireland, on top of €49 in tax and €40 for a match ticket.
Dublin Airport Authority also confirmed that other airlines and tour operators had been forced to cancel around three flights in total to the islands, while one flight was diverted to Norway to avoid the dense fog.
The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) said the match would definitely go ahead despite the weather and Ireland won 2-0 in Torshavn , with goals from Ian Harte and Kevin Kilbane.
