Hundreds of Britons on holiday have been struck down by a virus, forcing an abrupt end to their travel plans. Passengers aboard luxury ship the Sea Princess, were afflicted by a severe vomiting virus, forcing their trip to end a day early.
The ship will return to Southampton tomorrow, meaning passengers will miss out on their final destination to Lisbon.
Organisers of the trip have agreed to pay passengers a 30 per cent refund as well as a £150 discount on future voyages, but this has done little to pacify enraged customers.
One lady told the BBC: "We just don't think Princess Cruises dealt us a fair hand.
"They are decontaminating cabins now but they should have done this before we got on when the ship was empty."
Many holiday insurance policies now provide cover in the event of illness and accidents, allowing people to claim substantial amounts of losses back.
Some travel insurance providers also cover cancellations, in addition to situations requiring medical assistance, cutting down overall costs for travellers.
