holiday insurance customers and other travellers have been warned to make a few checks before plunging into swimming pools while abroad this summer.Consumer rights group HolidayTravelWatch has stated that illnesses can be caused by the water they swim in, while away on their travels.
"When people are ill during or after a holiday they usually assume it's because of something they've eaten, but it could easily be caused by the water they've been swimming in," said Frank Brehany from the HolidayTravelWatch.
The Independent reports that those taking trips to destinations across the world should be aware that pools could contain bacteria or E-coli.
This is despite the publication indicating that the first dive into the pool should be "one of the most relaxing, self-indulgent aspects of almost any summer holiday".
School summer holidays start at the beginning of July, a time which traditionally sees millions of families set off on trips abroad.
