British travellers are looking towards travel literature and television programmes for inspiration in picking the destination for their next trip abroad, it has been reported.Holiday provider Thomas Cook notes that a weak dollar has boosted the popularity of the US and the Caribbean as top locations to spend a holiday, while those holidaymakers with a bit more flexibility on the date and resort they want can find great deals for countries like Turkey, Greece and Cuba.
A spokesperson at the company said: "Customers are also often inspired by books, travel and nature programmes.
"This however gives high expectations and travel companies have to work to constantly improve the quality of holidays and standard of staff to ensure holidays meet expectations."
She added that, unlike the fluff of old, modern holiday brochures are much more likely to adopt a straightforward approach to ensure an honest depiction of various holiday destinations and guarantee that travellers get the trip they expect when heading abroad.
Last month, a survey from holiday insurance provider Halifax found that 82 per cent of complaints received by holiday representatives relate to the accommodation, with some finding that it does not match the standard promised online or in a holiday brochure.
