British holidaymakers are neglecting to take vital steps to ensure they do not become victims of identity fraud when going away from home, it has been claimed.Recently-published research from CreditExpert reveals that 23 per cent of travellers don't consider taking precautions when going away, while 65 per cent will not lock away vital documents when leaving their home unattended.
Jim Hodgkins, managing director of the firm, said: "We spend weeks looking forward to our holidays, but many of us leave the most important item off our checklist - our identity."
He advises consumers to regularly check their credit report for any anomalies that could occur as a result of identity fraud.
When abroad, holidaymakers are advised to keep their boarding pass and receipts for later shredding and to keep their passport in a hotel safe.
Travellers are also advised to not let their plastic payment cards out of their sight while abroad and to keep their wallet in a zipped pocket.
In April 2007, holiday insurance provider Lloyds TSB revealed that 45 per cent of Britons are concerned about the safety of their money when abroad, with 16 per cent admitting to wearing a bum bag to protect their possessions.
