Holiday period 'peak time' for lost luggage
22 November 2006  With the increased numbers of fliers during the Christmas and New Year period, holiday insurance claims could be on the increase as it is claimed that the holiday season has the highest reports of lost luggage per person during the year.

Luggage delivery firm Forever Yours Transportation has noted the increased incidence of lost bags and issued a number of tips to holidaymakers to help reduce the risks of being separated from your bags when away.

The company advises holidaymakers to check in on time rather than the last minute, to avoid being "bumped" by overbooked airlines, to properly tag luggage and to pack only what is necessary for the trip.

Robert Bennett, chief executive officer of the company, said: "By heeding these travel precautions during peak holiday travel periods, passengers will ensure luggage will arrive safely at their final destination and enjoy a happy holiday season."

Earlier this year, holiday insurance provider American Express recommended the i-Trak tagging technology that uses a personal barcode system to allow holidaymakers to track down missing baggage.
