British holidaymakers planning to take a driving trip into Europe this summer should make sure that their holiday insurance is up to date and comprehensive. According to a new survey by insurance provider, Saga, nearly one in seven Brits breaks the law when driving abroad by not taking their insurance documents and driving licence with them.
Driving in a foreign country can be disorientating and dangerous, with 37 per cent of drivers finding navigating and reading foreign road signs very difficult and 19 per cent struggling to remember which way to drive on foreign roundabouts, which is why holidaymakers should always ensure they are fully covered by comprehensive holiday insurance.
Chief executive of Saga, Andrew Goodsell said: "To limit the chances of getting into difficulty, people should plan their route before they leave and ask their passengers to navigate.
"Driving licences and insurance documents are compulsory for driving abroad and should be the first thing you pack."
The research was conducted for Saga in December 2005 by the British Marketing Research Bureau, one of the largest providers of public policy research in the UK which regularly conducts national level research into public interest and social policy.
