British families tired of traditional hotel breaks may be interested in the idea of renting a private holiday home, while it is claimed that choosing this type of accommodation can slash the cost of a trip abroad.Travel accommodation firm Holiday-Rentals.co.uk has tipped homes in Belgium, France and Scotland as ideal locations for families to spend a week's holiday.
Recommended for pairs of couples, small groups and families are the two-bedroom Swan Tower in Bruges, the Dream Themes property near the French Riviera in Nice and a luxury apartment a stone's throw from Edinburgh Castle.
"You could save up to 40 per cent off travel agent prices by opting for a private rental instead of a hotel," the company states.
It adds that the firm offers private rented holiday accommodation suitable for groups of all sizes with a range of prices for every wallet.
Historic Scotland reports that Edinburgh Castle - part of the city's World Heritage site - is the most renowned historical building in Scotland and offers "stunning" views to visitors.
