One of the UK's leading providers of support and information about breast cancer, Breast Cancer Care, are calling for changes to travel insurance policies. Breast Cancer Care are concerned that cancer suffers and former patients who wish to travel with proper travel insurance cover are still being discriminated against, the Mail on Sunday reports.
Anna Wood, Breast Cancer Care campaigns manager, says: "We routinely hear from current and former-breast cancer patients who are shocked to have been told by insurers that they won't provide them with holiday cover, or quote extremely high premiums."
The charity has spoken out requesting that holiday insurance companies to remove blanket bans on people with long term illnesses, especially for short holiday breaks.
"Great strides have been made in breast cancer treatment and survival rates in recent years," Ms Wood commented.
"Illness on a short holiday is extremely unlikely to be related to breast cancer."
Depending on the illness, holidaymakers may be unable to buy any holiday insurance at all or visit certain countries, although there are a couple of companies who will insure those with existing conditions.
According to Breast Cancer Care, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in the UK and accounts for nearly one in three cases of cancer in women.
