Holidaymakers are taking increasingly expensive electronic equipment with them when they travel abroad, according to new figures, which may require better and more comprehensive holiday insurance policies.The report from travel insurance company esure.com reveals that over the last five years the cost of peoples' travel accessories has trebled, due to peoples' desire to take the latest digital equipment and mobile phones with them everywhere they go.
esure's poll shows that three quarters of people take a digital camera away on holiday and around a third take camcorders to film their foreign travels.
Jacky Brown, head of travel insurance at esure.com, said: "With prices of hi-tech gadgets continuing to rise and technology developing so swiftly, it's crucial for people not to lower their guard whilst on holiday and only take necessities with them.
"Holidaymakers should make sure that they have adequate travel insurance cover for peace of mind."
Travellers are advised to ensure that luggage is properly and securely labelled and that hand luggage is kept sealed and if possible locked at all times and while away to keep all valuables locked in the hotel safe.
