Following a security alert at Glasgow Airport last week, the Airport Operators Association (AOA) has reminded travellers that restrictions to hand baggage introduced last August are still currently in place.The AOA advises holidaymakers to bear these restrictions in mind when packing and to remove as many containers of liquid from their carry-on baggage as possible in order to speed up the security process at the airport.
Chris Goater, head of media and public affairs at the organisation, said: "It is still a challenging situation in terms of dealing with those restrictions on liquids and checking people's shoes and all the other things that people have to go through at the moment."
He added that - while annoying - these security checks remain necessary and stated that travellers may have to queue at airport security during peak travel hours, which should be taken into account when planning a journey.
The Department for Transport notes that travellers can take small amounts of liquids in 100ml containers in a transparent re-sealable plastic bag as part of their hand luggage.
