New reports from experts monitoring tropical storm Gamma have suggested that the depression will now miss the southern tip of Florida. Residents on the southern tip of the Sunshine State have already received a battering from hurricanes this year and had been bracing themselves to ride out yet another storm.
However, new data claims that Gamma will not follow the same destructive path as Hurricane Wilma did earlier this year and it also suggests that the storm's strength is now on the wane.
That will come as a massive relief to all those on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, who have been ravaged over the past few months as the hurricane season surpassed all previous records.
Rob Handel, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Miami, told Palm Beach Daily News: "Gamma continues to be less organised as it goes over the northwest Caribbean Sea. Although it's still a tropical depression, it's of little consequence to anyone in the United States."
Gamma has already wreaked havoc, however, claiming two lives last week as it struck the Caribbean.
