As the riots in France continue to spread to over 300 towns and cities, numerous countries including the US, Australia, Britain, Germany, Japan, and at least another dozen more, have warned tourists to stay away from the areas affected. The need for insurance is often connected with more exotic countries, but the recent problems in a country with such close proximity to the UK may hammer home the need for travel insurance to be bought for trips planned anywhere in the world.
Riots in France have been raging since the death of two teenagers on October 27th.
President Jacques Chirac declared a state of emergency yesterday, paving the way for curfews in riot-hit cities.
Speaking on Sunday, the president vowed "the Republic is quite determined, by definition, to be stronger than those who want to sow violence or fear".
The popular tourist destinations of Paris, Lille and Strasbourg, more commonly associated with beautiful rivers and elegant squares, have been besieged by frustrated rioters burning cars and attacking the French police.
A 61-year-old man became the first fatality after attempting to put out a fire in rubbish bin on Monday.
