Large swathes of France are suffering from severe drought, as the dry weather that has affected Spain and Portugal so far this summer moves north. According to Reuters, of the country's 96 mainland departments, some 50 of them have had water rations imposed by the French government, including bans on washing cars and filling swimming pools.
The environment ministry has warned that there is an increased chance of forest fires and interruptions to water supplies.
The rising temperatures will raise fears of a repeat of the campsite fire that occurred near Frejus, in the South of France last week.
As many as 10,000 people had to evacuated from campsites after a forest fire wiped out 1,000 hectares of woodland.
Incidents such as this, and the continued hot and dry weather, will increase the importance of taking out adequate holiday insurance before going abroad for the summer break.
