Family travelling tastes becoming more adventurous

A new survey from lastminute.com shows that parents are becoming increasingly adventurous when it comes to their choice of destination when picking a family holiday. It found that places like Gambia, Kenya and Morocco are now on the top-ten list of favourite holiday destinations, although favourites like Majorca, Egypt, Greece and the Cyprus still head the list.
However, the increased amount of travelling is more reason than ever why customers should take out holiday insurance and no family should leave the country without it – even if it is a cheap policy according to Brian Brown, an associate director of product research firm Defaqto.
Explaining the difference between cheaper policies and more expensive ones, Mr Brown said that cheaper ones, although they might not have any one particular failing, may have more limitations.
He said: "There normally won't be missed or delayed departure cover. Even with the more expensive policies this may only be £25 but at least it covers the magazines to keep the kids entertained. The smaller end of the market is lacking round the margins of cover."
Last week, Nationwide building society warned families to make sure that they have adequate travel insurance for their needs, whether they are hopping over the border in to France or jetting off to Kenya.
Robin Bailey, Nationwide's insurance director, commented: "As summer approaches and thoughts turn to holidays and trips abroad, it is important that people have adequate holiday insurance, regardless of whether they are travelling alone or as a family."
