Christmas is a popular time of the year for families, including those with holiday insurance, to head abroad, with the most popular destinations reportedly being Austria, Italy and Bulgaria, as well as Lapland.Tour operator Inghams reports that while groups of travellers tend to head abroad to destinations with a good nightlife for New Year celebrations, destinations tend to differ for families.
A spokesperson for the company reports that factors such as this year's poor snow tends to not affect many people's holiday plans, as many holidays are booked a year in advance of travel.
"Most of our guests are repeat clients who go year after year who are looking for a certain regional flight, going to a certain resort and they want to stay in a certain hotel or chalet," he said.
He added that some travellers would book their trip for 2007 before they take their winter holiday this year.
Earlier this month, Sainsbury's Travel Insurance reported that 11.9 per cent of the UK population is considering travelling abroad for Christmas.
The company expressed concerns that up to eight per cent of travellers may not purchase holiday insurance before they travel.
