Families given holiday insurance advice
01 November 2006  With Christmas being an opportunity for people to see far-flung members of their family, those looking to visit their relatives have been advised to purchase holiday insurance before they make their trip.

Holiday insurance provider InsureMyTrip.com has warned that getaways are at risk from delays, interruptions and cancellations.

It stated that unforeseen medical emergencies are the primary reason for the cancelling of many family trips, while most family travel insurance policies will include a range of cover to protect against the financial costs of such incidents.

Peter Evans, executive vice president of the company, said: "During the holiday season especially, the overall number of travellers rises significantly and the potential for en route challenges to occur also increases."

He added that around Christmastime it was essential to be properly informed and travel with holiday insurance.

Earlier this month, Sainsbury's Bank reported that medical bills and repatriation were the number one reason for holiday insurance claims being made, followed by cancellation and lost property.
