Experts 'give holiday wedding secrets'
01 December 2006  Couples wanting to pick up their holiday insurance and follow in the footsteps of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes for a wedding abroad have been advised to make sure they work with an experienced wedding planner to ensure the big day runs smoothly.

WeddingDestinations.com advises those looking to tie the knot away from home to look beyond the internet and have face-to-face meetings with their planner, in addition to taking the necessary time to properly plan the event.

Quentin Carmichael, president of DestinationWeddings.com, said: "The key to having a successful destination wedding is planning with an experienced specialist who understands the intricacies of arranging a wedding in a foreign country."

He added that a good wedding planner will solve problems not even considered by the couple, in addition to answering their questions.

Halifax reported last year that wedding attendees will spend an average of £300, with this figure rising to £1,300 for those travelling abroad for the occasion.

It advised travelling wedding guests to purchase annual holiday insurance to save on the travelling expense when going to weddings overseas.
