A shark has attacked a 16-year-old boy in the sea off the coast of Florida, the Sunshine State frequented by thousands of Brits each year.The teenager was bitten in Cape San Blas, off Florida's Panhandle, and was flown to hospital for treatment.
His leg injuries were so bad that he had to undergo an amputation, and remains in a critical condition.
The attack comes just two days after 14-year-old Jamie Daigle was also bitten by a shark, 80 miles away in Walton County. The young girl died from her wounds.
According to the International Shark Attack File, an organisation that records attacks at the Florida Museum of Natural History, fatalities from sharks are not common - only seven people across the world died as a result of the 61 recorded attacks last year.
Florida annually suffers from the most shark attacks in the US - of the 30 reported last year, 12 were in Florida.
