Travellers planning to purchase holiday insurance policies to take a trip to the American south this year may be pleased to know that the regeneration of New Orleans' spirit is well under way. Visitors, many of whom will travel to the US with holiday insurance, can now once again take advantage of the Rail and Cruise programme, which has resumed its service out of the Port of New Orleans, International Daily Travel News reports.
The scheme which is a partnership between Amtrak and Carnival Cruise Lines will run four and five-day cruises out of New Orleans, sailing to Cozumel and either Calica or Costa Maya, from October this year.
The Rail and Cruise programme also links travellers, with and without holiday insurance, to nearly 100 cities across the US, running daily train link services from Chicago, New York and Los Angeles which make numerous stops on route.
President and chief executive of Carnival Cruises, Bob Dickinson, said: "We're delighted to partner once again with Amtrak in offering the Rail & Cruise program from New Orleans which provides guests with an affordable, hassle-free transportation option."
New Orleans' festivals have also made something of a comeback after the hurricane disaster last year, with cultural festivals and weekly open-air concerts playing across the city throughout the summer.
