Passengers were left with severe delays after a plane overshot the runway and crashed at Luton Airport on Sunday. The incident forced the airport to close for several hours, causing all flights into the airport to be cancelled as well as a number of outbound flights.
Around 20 incoming Ryanair and easyJet flights already in the air had to be diverted to Stansted.
The airport was put on full emergency alert after the private jet, which was carrying three crew and one passenger, overshot the landing and became stuck in the mud.
"Some aircraft have been able to leave but we are unfortunately unable to accept any arriving services and many of our carriers have cancelled flights," Luton's managing director Kathryn James said after the incident.
Slow progress was being made in the aircraft recovery operation and passengers were advised to check that their flights would fly as scheduled.
For those without travel insurance delays and cancellations could end up costing a great deal of money.
