Couples urged to check insurance before Valentine's breaks

Couples planning on popping the big question abroad this Valentine's Day have been urged to check their holiday insurance is sufficient to cover the cost of the engagement ring, in case of theft or loss.annual holiday insurance provider American Express reports that Venice has topped the list of preferred holiday destinations for a romantic break, followed by Paris, Rome and New York, with the Seychelles making up the top five.
Other destinations in the top ten included Barbados and Sydney, while the company urges those considering proposing on a trip overseas to make sure their holiday insurance policy covers the expense of the ring.
Joanne Field, marketing manager at American Express Insurance Services, said: "Only a few travel insurance policies offer more than £250 cover for valuables and should the ring be lost or stolen romantic suitors could be financially unlucky in love."
Specialist wedding insurance company Weddingplan recently reported that the cost of the average wedding in the UK had increased by 86 per cent since 1998.
