Compensation sole consolation for disappointed tourists

Battering parts of the Americas across a number of months, the hurricanes that have plagued the area have left behind severe damage, electricity outages and flooding, ruining the daily lives of many who live in the area. The hurricane season has also disrupted the holiday plans of many tourists, emphasising the need for travel insurance to cover any unexpected problems.
According to the American paper the Patriot News, a number of travel agents in the area have commented on the level of disruption within the industry, and how compensation offered for those covered by travel insurance is, at present, all that can be offered.
Travel agent Louise Rutkowski, from Carlisle, said that "we always recommend travel insurance" as it can cover a number of problems out of the tourist's control.
Jack Greenawalt, an agent in Susquehanna, commented on how disrupted the industry is in some Mexican resorts.
He said: " We haven't heard yet from individual hotels, it's very hard to get through to the tour companies.
"And they haven't formulated their policies yet. The biggest question is how bad the damage is."
Mr Greenawalt further added that he had never such a level of disruption in his ten years as a travel agent.
