'Bulk of holiday complaints' relate to accommodation
08 June 2007  The majority of complaints made by disgruntled holidaymakers relate to their accommodation, it has been claimed.

Research from holiday insurance firm Halifax reveals that 82 per cent of complaints received by holiday representatives will have something to do with accommodation, while other grumbles in the top five include noise pollution and problems with food.

Paul Birkhead, an underwriting manager at the firm, said: "The first port of call when on holiday should always be your travel rep who will be a useful source of help, advice and handy contacts."

He added that travellers should remember to take details of their holiday insurance policy with them abroad in case they suffer more serious problems, while also recommending that holidaymakers take the time to properly research their destination in advance of travel.

A survey in 2002 from Abbey National revealed that 30 per cent of Britons will spend over £1,000 per person on summer holiday expenses including accommodation, transport, food and entertainment.
