Budget cruise liner embarks on first Aegean cruise
18 May 2007  Travellers on a budget who want to experience the unique holiday opportunities of a Greek cruise holiday may be interested in the first trip from Piraeus, Athens by an easyCruise liner.

As part of its newly-launched Greek itineraries, the easyCruiseOne will set sail from the port for its first Aegean journey, with holidaymakers given the option of four and seven day options taking in a number of Greek islands.

Stop-offs on these journeys include the "undiscovered" islands of Amorgos, Milos and Sifnos in addition to the sophisticated Mykonos and Ios, among others.

Stelios Haji-Ioannou, founder of easyCruise, said: "It has always been my plan to offer a Greek itinerary for easyCruise customers as I know personally how fantastic Athens and the surrounding islands are, both for their cultural background but also for their diversity"

He added that the islands offered holidaymakers the chance to experience the stark contrast of bustling urban centres and a calming beach atmosphere, with the firm soon to announce its journey plans for the 2008 season.

In October 2006, holiday insurance provider Axa reported that 4.5 million Britons planned to take a cruise holiday during the year.
