Budapest's Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace has been named as one of the top hotels to stay at in the world by Forbes. Chosen as the top former Eastern Bloc destination, the hotel was singled out for its location, ability to meet the demands of modern travellers and its decor.
Fortuitously located opposite the Roosevelt Square facing the River Danube, the hotel opened in the spring of 2004 after a two-year, $110 million restoration.
Writing for Forbes, Sophia Banay commented: "Until several years ago, Budapest had no true world-class hotel. That changed in 2004 with the opening of the Four Seasons."
The selection of the hotel also pays tribute to the improvements that Hungary has made in the past few years. Foreign investment in Hungary has totalled $23 billion since 1989, while the country's recent accession to the European Union has brought more Western traffic to the capital than ever before.
Increased tourist interest in the city is anticipated after the renowned director Stephen Spielberg chose to film his latest epic, 'Munich', there.
