It's not just the price of the holiday that people need to take into account when budgeting this summer, as according to a new survey, Brits are destined to spend £1.4 billion on shopping for holiday items this year. The research conducted by the Post Office has revealed that, aside from holiday insurance, holidaymakers on average spend around £120 each, before they have even made it on to the aeroplane, buying items for their trip.
Women are most likely to spend money on new clothes for their holidays, with eight out of ten purchasing new clothes especially for their summer travels and over half investing in new swimwear.
Head of Post Office credit card, Gary Fitton, said: "People want to make sure they look their best and have fun on holiday and for many this means a lot of preparation before they even board the flight - spending that perhaps isn't always realised in the total cost of a holiday."
As well as purchasing more holiday insurance, women are also more likely than men to buy new shoes, beauty treatments and foreign currency for their trip abroad.
Men however are more likely to invest in new sports equipment before they head off on holiday.
