Brits 'look to unique accommodation for X factor trips'

Britons with a taste for do-it-yourself online holiday booking are creating a demand for unusual accommodation abroad, from castles to oasthouses and canal boats.UK holiday accommodation firm Self Catering Breaks reports that while demand for traditional villas and apartments rose by 12 per cent in the last year, requests for more unusual accommodation increased by 50 per cent.
Gareth Robinson, director of the company, said: "We are seeing a definite trend towards holiday accommodation with something different or special about it."
He added that many users have experienced standard accommodation many times over and are now seeking "the X factor" from their holiday accommodation.
Self Catering Breaks offers holidaymakers a range of accommodation, from villas, and chalets to caravans, campsites and house boats in a range of countries, with special offers currently available on trips to Spain and France, as well as those within the UK.
Last year, holiday insurance provider Axa reported that 21 per cent of British consumers had planned to take a camping holiday during 2006.
