With the Met Office predicting wind and showers this weekend, UK holidaymakers are electing to squeeze a few more days use from their annual holiday insurance and hop abroad to soak up the sun.Budget airline easyJet have announced a five per cent increase on last year's passenger figures, with travellers escaping to the hotter climates of Malaga, Alicante and Nice.
Toby Nicol, easyJet's director of communications, reports that passengers are heading off to mainland Europe for a city break or to visit friends and family.
"The UK weather has proved to be a great disappointment this August so people have turned to easyJet's low fares to take advantage of the long weekend."
Those who can't make it overseas are still willing to make the most of the last bank holiday till Christmas and are booking last minute trips within the UK, according to tour operator Hoeseasons.
Research published this week by Sainsbury's Bank urged passengers not to forget to buy travel insurance when booking a last minute holiday.
