Instead of using the recent bank holiday as an opportunity to pick up some holiday insurance and go on a well-deserved break, it is claimed that millions of Britons engaged in work-related tasks over the recent August holiday weekend.Research from first direct reveals that 17 million employees - two fifths of the country - ended up working during the bank holiday weekend, with many checking their emails, reading for work or writing proposals.
Jane Hanson, head of human resources for the bank, said: "It's clear that for the country's working population, having the bank holiday off is not a given."
She added that many workers will either be employed in a job where they're in the office on bank holidays, or may take their work home with them.
In May 2007, swiftcover.com reported that six per cent of Londoners will take a wireless communications device or Blackberry with them on their holidays in order to keep up to date with emails from their office.
