Britons attracted to destinations by 'good weather'

As the UK continues to be struck by unseasonably inclement weather, it has been argued that a leading reason for travellers to pick particular holiday destinations is the lure of good weather abroad.The Association of British Travel Agents (Abta) notes that Spain has remained the top holiday destination for British travellers, followed by France, the US, Italy and Greece - with Greece having only recently been overtaken by Italy in fourth place in the top five.
Sean Tipton, spokesperson for the association, said: "The main reason for leaving the country - as most of our breaks are taken over the summer - is the lure of guaranteed good weather and beautiful beaches."
He added that other important factors driving travel to particular destinations include exotic foreign food, attractive landscapes and outstanding architecture.
Last December, holiday insurance provider Sainsbury's Bank reported that 12 per cent of Britons were thinking about spending their Christmas holidays abroad, with the bulk of these - some eight per cent - considering a trip to Spain.
