British parents 'not prepared' for half-term spending

Many British parents planning on engaging in family travel this half-term could be spending more than they planned on their trip as a result of inadequate budgeting and slack security when abroad.Recently published research from holiday insurance provider Lloyds TSB found that one fifth of parents plan on taking their children abroad, with 41 per cent admitting they may spend more than they originally budgeted and 17 per cent neglecting to set a budget at all.
Furthermore, 53 per cent of families stated their intent to travel abroad with cash, while only 46 per cent of those questioned stated they would use the hotel safe when abroad.
Jatin Patel, head of travel and international payments at the firm, said: "Keeping money safe and sticking to a budget can be difficult at the best of times, but when you're on holiday and in unfamiliar surroundings, it can be even more of a challenge."
He added that the company's travel money card could be of use to those travelling abroad looking for a secure means of payment for shopping while overseas.
Last autumn, annual holiday insurance provider esure.com advised Britons on holiday to keep all valuables, such as digital cameras, in the hotel safe when not in use.
