Increasing numbers of baby boomers may be poised to purchase holiday insurance and travel abroad as it is claimed that the generation born between approximately 1946 and 1964 have more freedom and time to spend travelling than before.Lauraday Kelley, vice president of education and training for Vacation.com, told the Society for Accessible Travel and Hospitality World Congress that this generation will now move firmly into the leisure travel market.
"The travel industry will see a remarkable growth in the leisure segment over the next 18 years as more and more boomers have the freedom and time to spend money more freely," she told the congress.
Ms Kelley predicted that the growth of family travel would outpace all other forms of leisure travel during 2007.
Last October, holiday insurance provider AA Travel Insurance reported that retired Britons are becoming more interested in taking extended or multiple holidays each year.
